Kilindi Zanzibar

Luxury. Privacy. Space. Service. Romance. Exclusivity. Tranquility.  Kilindi offers all this and more. Surrounded by 50 acres of lush verdant tropical forest, and with 500m of private beach, this is the island escape that dreams are made of. Built for Benny of ABBA fame, it has pedigree.

Kilindi, run by the Elewana Collection, is widely considered to be one of the best places to stay on Zanzibar. It’s a firm favourite with honeymooners and couples wanting a more exclusive, private experience. It’s more pricey than some alternatives, but if you have the budget, it’s definitely worth it.

The pace of life here is relaxed and the ambience calm and peaceful. Each pavilion is slightly different from the next, but all are elegant in their simplicity, with a strong Arab influence in the design and finishes.

You have your own personal butler at your disposal and he will assist you with anything you need, be it arranging excursions or suggesting romantic locations for your evening meal. Talking of which, the food here is superb. Lots of the fresh produce is grown in Kilindi’s own kitchen garden and where possible they source food as locally as possible.

Enjoy cocktails in the bar, or by the magnificent infinity pool as you look out over the Indian ocean, it’s a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down as another beautiful day draws to a close.

There are a few very top end places to stay on Zanzibar, Kilindi ranks highly among them in our view.

Kilindi Zanzibar rooms

Kilindi, with its 15 incredible guest Pavilions is the epitome of island romance and luxury. Each eastern style guest pavilion is surrounded by lush private gardens. Outside is a sun deck and plunge pools, yes that’s right, two pools, linked by a water feature. Inside these unique rooms, décor is simple, minimalist and classy with lots of luxurious touches. Splashes of colour contrast with the whitewashed walls and stone floor.

The centrepiece of the room is a large bed with an ornately carved canopy draped in a white mozzie net.  The windows are glassless, covered only by wooden shutters and have stunning ocean views.  Sea breezes flow through the room and should you be hot there is also air-conditioning above the bed.

Walking through the pavilion you reach the large wet room with a refreshing rain shower as the focal point along with his and hers basins and a loo with a view out over the ocean. There is an electronic safe for valuables and an internal telephone system, should you require anything from your personal butler.
