Safari, Sand & Spice

A best-selling safari and beach adventure using some of our favourite value-for-money properties.

Safari, Sand & Spice

10 days from £2,350 pp plus international flights.

Quintessential safari and beach with the thrills of wildlife encounters and the lazy charms of Zanzibar. See a mighty bull elephant up close, watch giraffes break into a gallop and experience your first spine-tingling lion sighting, then relax by the Indian Ocean and explore the famous Spice Island.

A proven favourite, this holiday is the classic blend of safari and beach. Ideal as an introduction to African safaris, it won’t break the bank either.

Start your adventure in Selous Game Reserve, less visited than better known parks so there are fewer vehicles and you often have sightings to yourself, adding a real sense of privilege to your safari. Your lodge is just outside the northern boundary of the reserve (which makes the price keener than those in the middle) but it’s a quick trip into Selous for your game drives.  Selous has populations of elephant, zebra, giraffe and many species of antelope, with predators including lion and leopard. As well as 4×4 safaris you have a boat trip on a lake to spot birds, crocs and maybe hippos, and nature walks in the bush, all led by enthusiastic expert guides. It’s exciting and addictive – you have been warned!

After all this safari drama you’ll appreciate lazy days by the sea. Within a short flight you are on the famous island of Zanzibar, and heading for your charming small hotel on the north coast. Enjoy the simple pleasures of life as you stroll in the flower-filled gardens, gaze out over the Indian Ocean, sip a chilled drink, cool off with a swim in the pool and treat your tastebuds to deliciously fresh seafood. You have several days to explore the island as well as to unwind, all at your own pace.
