Mara, Crater & Zanzibar

Classic safari and beach combination using some of favourite properties and offering excellent value for money.

Mara, Crater & Zanzibar

13 days from £4745 pp plus international flights.

This 13-day trip provides spectacular wildlife viewing in a private Kenyan conservancy bordering the Masai Mara, in the Masai Mara reserve itself and in Tanzania’s Tarangire National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You also visit the Ngorongoro Crater, and finish with five hugely relaxing days on the spice island of Zanzibar.

You get the best of both worlds on this 13-day safari and beach holiday, starting with 3 full days in Kenya’s Olare Motorogi private conservancy. This borders the Masai Mara and boasts equally incredible wildlife – researchers deemed it the best place in Africa to see lions – but is much quieter than the Mara, so is better in many ways. However, you can choose to spend one of your days in the Mara reserve itself, if you’d like to experience game drives in that iconic location.

You then fly into Tanzania, for two days of game viewing in Tarangire. One of the less known of Tanzania’s national parks, Tarangire is wild, beautiful and dotted with ancient baobab trees. It’s a Big Five destination, and home to the charming little rock hyrax (‘dassies’) and a number of animals not seen anywhere else in the country.

Next you travel to the Ngorongoro Crater UNESCO World Heritage Site, staying for two nights at nearby Karatu, before you fly to Zanzibar. Following all that safari excitement it’s time to recharge your batteries with 5 days on this glorious spice island.

You’ll stay in a very comfortable camp in Olare Motorogi, set in a fantastic location for game viewing, a stylish new lodge on a private concession bordering Tarangire, an elegant colonial-style former coffee farm at Karatu and a small, intimate lodge by the ocean on Zanzibar.
