Selous Wilderness Camp
Selous Wilderness Camp is one of the best choices for a simple and reasonably-priced camp on the outskirts of the reserve. You’ll enter the park each day, and there are plenty of different activities available in this fantastic wildlife area.
The camp is in a lovely bush setting on the riverbank of the Rufiji River. You can often spot hippos in the river from the comfort of the open-sided lounge. Boat safaris from the camp allow for further exploration of the water and the busy shoreline. Twice daily game drives take guests into the wilderness when there is peak animal activity, as the dawn and early afternoon departures ensure optimum viewings. Your immediate surroundings can be explored in depth with the help of experienced guides on walking safaris, and you can also get a feel of the local community by visiting a nearby village. In essence, Selous Wilderness Camp offers an authentic safari experience for a more affordable price. Its rustic charm and quiet location makes this a good choice for a Selous Safari.
We offer a very well-priced safari and beach holiday that includes this lodge and its sister camp on Zanzibar, Fumba Beach Lodge. It’s one of the best value safari and beach holidays we offer – take a look. (Other places in Selous that you could consider to keep prices reasonable are Lake Manze Camp within the reserve, and Sable Mountain Lodge just outside the northern boundary of the reserve)
Times to Go
Selous is best visited from about June to October if you want the best general wildlife. This is the dry season, and it’s easier to spot wildlife at this time. The long rains tend to fall in mid-March to May, with short rains around mid-November.
