Melia Zanzibar is a delightful escape on the north east cost of the famed Spice Island. It lies within a 16 hectare estate next to a sandy beach. It’s well placed for exploring the island but also for a relaxing stay soaking up the sun and stunning vistas of sand, sea and swaying palm trees.

Melia Zanzibar is a medium size resort, designed and finished to a high standard. The aim is for guests to enjoy the idyllic island setting, feel relaxed and well looked after. Usually booked on an all inclusive basis, there are several different dining options. Spices Restaurant operates a buffet style set up serving international cuisine., light meals are available at the Pool Bar, Gabi Beach serves a grill menu and last, but by no means lest is the quirky Jetty Lounge where you can enjoy pre or post dinner drinks and snacks at the end of the jetty, jutting out over the Indian Ocean. To relax you even further you can enjoy pampering treatments at the Anantara Spa, a wonderful way to finish off a chilled out day on the island.

Times to Go

Zanzibar is especially good to visit in the dry season from June to October. Most rain falls between March and May with light rains possible in November and December.

Melia Zanzibar rooms

Melia Zanzibar has rooms and suites across a variety of levels.  All are modern and light with contemporary furnishings. Air conditioning, satellite TV, hairdryer, Wi-Fi, safe, bathrobe and slippers and a hot drinks tray come as standard in all rooms.

Melia Garden Room

Spacious ground floor room of 50sq metres has direct access out to the pretty tropical gardens. King size or twin beds available. There is an outdoor tropical shower and an indoor bathtub.

Melia Terrace Room

With a partial sea view this first floor room has a private balcony along with an outdoor shower. The en-suite has a bathtub and separate shower. King size beds are standard though twin beds can be requested. Inter-connecting rooms are available for families.

Family Room

This room suits families with two children. There’s a separate bedroom for adults and an area in the open living space with two single beds for the children. It’s spacious with two balconies, a large open plan lounge and dining area.

Ocean View Bungalow

This cliffside room has fantastic ocean views and large picture windows make the most of them. Sliding doors lead out to the balcony where you can relax and let the sea breeze wash over you. The bathroom has a bathtub and two basins, outside is a tropical shower. It’s your own little haven on Zanzibar.

The Level Romance Ocean Front Pavillion

An adults only room on the cliffside, the perfect romantic retreat. You have stunning views of the Indian Ocean, even from the free-standing bathtub. A high makuti thatched roof and large picture windows give a feeling of space. Guests staying in this suite have access to the exclusive ‘The Level’ services and a range of VIP extras.

The Level Grand Suite Zanzibar

At 117 sq metres, this spacious suite offers guests a superb home from home during their stay. There are two separate balconies, one off the bedroom and one accessible from the lounge, overlooking the gardens with partial sea views.  As well as the en-suite with large bathtub, shower and sinks you have a refreshing outdoor shower too. There’s a dining area, writing desk and a large flat screen TV in the lounge and also one in the bathroom. This suite also comes with access to ‘The Level’ services.

The Level 1, 2 or 3 Bedroom Villa

Upping the level of privacy, the villas are perfect for those wanting to get away from it all.  It’s your own private house. You’ll have your own pool set within a pretty tropical garden and sunbeds where you can lounge in the day and watch the stars at night. Inside is the lounge, dining room, fully equipped kitchen, indoor bathroom with tub, separate shower and TV, also an outdoor shower is available. As well as access to ‘The Level’ services you have a butler service (on request) and also a Bali Bed at Gabi Beach included (one per villa per stay – prebooked). Two and three bedroom villas have two and three bathrooms respectively.

The Level Services includes a private lounge for The Level  guests with garden and ocean views.  It’s open daily from 11am to 6pm. You can enjoy an a la carte breakfast at The Jetty and you have a premium minibar in your room. There is an exclusive solarium area by the pool with fabulous ocean views.
