Matemwe Retreat

If you are looking for a secluded romantic location on Zanzibar, Matemwe Retreat offers just that. There are four villas with magnificent ocean vistas from their elevated vantage point. Add to this your personal butler, luxurious surroundings and you have your exclusive escape.

Matemwe Retreat was designed with couples in mind. The four spacious villas offer total privacy with personal service. You have your own butler and chef who will design a menu for you from locally sourced supplies and you can decide when and where you would like to eat. Nothing is too much trouble, you can enjoy a picnic lunch during excursions, or savour an evening meal on your own private terrace. If you want company then stroll down to Matemwe Lodge where you can enjoy a scrumptious seafood buffet in the stylish restaurant.

This is romance at its best with luxurious trappings to boot. You can watch the dhows bring in their catch from your balcony and relax by the plunge pool on your private roof terrace, opting for a sunny or shady spot. Location wise, you are ideally placed for diving and snorkelling the reefs of Mnenba Atoll. It’s just 30 minutes by boat to Mnemba Island where you have a good chance of seeing turtles and wild dolphins. Stone Town is about an hour away, perfect for day trips. Other interesting sites on the island are easily accessible.

Times to Go

Zanzibar is especially good to visit in the dry season from June to October. Most rain falls between March and May with light rains possible in November and December.
