Kinasi Lodge

Kinasi Lodge has resort style facilities without feeling large and impersonal.  The 14 rooms are well spaced in expansive grounds.  Close to the action in Chole Bay, the lodge has its own watersports centre, and also arguably the best beach on Mafia Island. It offers a great combination of activities and relaxation.

Kinasi Lodge is larger than most of the other Mafia Island properties (though still with only 14 rooms), but it’s spread out so you never feel lost in a crowd. Set on a hillside overlooking Chole Bay you have easy access to the Marine Park, and of course great views and fresh sea breezes from your elevated vantage point. The beach is one of the better ones on the island, though still tidal and backed by mangroves – Mafia is not a place to come for perfect beaches. However, guests can choose to take trips to sandspits (extra cost) too.

The décor is bright and colourful throughout, lots of influences from trading days of old filter throughout the lodge adding an interesting vibe. The spacious main bar with its open sides and thatch roof has plenty of sofas and chairs making it a popular spot for relaxing and catching those sea breezes as they flow through the property. It’s a relaxed and friendly place to stay.

Kinasi Lodge is well-priced for Mafia Island.  You get facilities that you might expect to find at a larger resort without having to deal with the crowds. The on-site water-sports centre is a bonus, and there is another one a 10 minute walk away. For your relaxation the tranquil spa offers an array of papering treatments. Culture vultures are also well-catered for; head out on a guided walk to a nearby village, or enjoy a visit to explore some of the nearby islands.  There is plenty to do at Kinasi Lodge, and you don’t have to break the bank to stay here.
