At Kilimanjaro Airport
KIA Lodge is a simple place with no pretence. It is the only lodge at Kilimanjaro airport, so without doubt the best option if you arrive very late or need to depart in the early hours.
The whole atmosphere at KIA is simple and relaxed. The staff are helpful and used to you arriving weary after a long flight. They go out of their way to ensure you are made to feel welcome with a minimal fuss at check-in.
The main foyer is reminiscent of county club which at first glance is a little outdated and dark, but you can forgive first impressions as you walk through this area to main part of the lodge.
The primary areas of KIA include a large dining area and an even larger shaded bar area, with (cloud permitting) astonishing views of the mountain. You can’t beat sitting with a cold Kilimanjaro beer in your hand watching the clouds disperse to reveal the ‘Roof of Africa’.
The pool area has a flagged area and several sun shaded recliners, towels provided.
Our view on KIA is it is definitely not top notch but it is perfectly adequate for an overnight stop when arriving at Kilimanjaro and you need a warm shower and clean bed for the night.
