Alex Walker’s Serian Serengeti

Generations of guiding and bush expertise combine memorably with simple elegance and attention to detail. Experience the drama of the migration with your own private safari vehicle and guide, or walk with a professional tracker, then return each night for a candlelit dinner in the comfort of this wonderfully stylish mobile camp. These guys do it right.

Alex Walker’s Serian Serengeti camps are, from start to finish, what high-end tented safaris are all about.  Superb one-to-one guiding, private, open-sided safari vehicles and expert professional trackers.  Add to this tremendous hosting, high quality yet unpretentious comfort with more than a touch of finesse, fantastic food, great attention to detail and wonderfully private locations in the heart of Serengeti, and you have something truly unforgettable. We just love these camps.

The location of the camp will depend on the time of year. Alex Walker and his team have created a fantastic luxury mobile tented operation that moves seasonally between the southern Serengeti plains and the Mara River in northern Serengeti – but always cleverly located away from the crowds. So you can catch the unfolding drama of the river crossings in the north of the park, or be in the deep south with the mega herds of wildebeest as the calving season starts.

The Alex Walker camps give you a personally hosted insight into the African bush through a dedicated and well-trained team. They are not cheap, but in our view they are worth splashing out on.

Times to Go

As these mobile camps, they are always in a great location for the migration.  Serengeti North and Serengeti Mobile Lamai are both in great positions not far from each other in the north, not far from known migration crossing points. Peak times for these camps would be July to October when you stand a high chance of seeing the migration.

Serengeti South and Serengeti Mobile Kusini are in the south. Both of these locations, which are some distance from each other, are some of the best place to be in the park from mid-December to March. These are the short grass plains where the migration herds come and give birth to their young and predators are never far away. In these southern camps, you might want to consider a few nights in each to give yourself the best chance of catching the herds.

Alex Walker Serian Camps rooms

In all the camps – Serengeti North and Serengeti South, and Serengeti Mobile Lamai (north) and Serengeti Mobile Kusini (south) – there are four large, beautifully furnished en-suite tents, each sleeping up to 3 people.

The beds are big and gloriously comfortable bed linen is neutral and calming.

Each tent includes a flush toilet safari style shower and wash basin.

There are 2 spacious family suites. Each comprises 2 separate en-suite tents, joined by a communal living space.

If necessary, a third child can sleep in the living room.

Twiga the giraffe likes this because…

“Alex Walker’s Serian Serengeti camps mostly rely on solar power for electricity. All laundry is ironed with a charcoal iron and most of the food cooked in a traditional charcoal oven using locally-sourced eco-friendly charcoal made by the local communities.”

And don’t forget… for every booking we get, Tanzania Specialists plants trees in deforested areas of Africa through The Travel Forest, and we back The Tribes Foundation’s conservation and social projects.
